What is Search Engine Optimization?

I had never heard of SEO before I started learning about web page marketing.  Had I really been out the loop so long?  I used to be the Jones’. Now, I’m trying to keep up with them.  What is the buzz acronym SEO?  SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  SEO is basically creating visibility for a web page.  Knowing this now, makes me understand why the website I created for my personal chef business failed, and I mean the failure was EPIC.  I took a great amount of time and created what I thought to be an awesome website. I sent out mailers.  I received one phone call from an elderly gentleman.  He called to let me know he was on the DO NOT MAIL list and if he received another piece of mail from me he was going to report me.  Not only was this guy off his rocker but I should have realized right then and there that my marketing strategy was a flop.

In hindsight, I should have investigated more options. If only I had known about search engine optimization when my site was still active, perhaps I would have had a fighting chance.  Would of, could of, should of.  Success would have come if I had known that I needed to let major search engines know I had a site.  I should have used widely available professional services to advertise for me and make it easy to track my traffic. When you create keywords and check out the content of the competition, your marketing strategy becomes clear.  You can’t change your past but you can learn from it. This epic failure showed me that if I want to try and start a business again, I will need SEO to be a part of my business plan!
